Choosing to become a meteorologist seemed to have come natural to this small town girl from West Tennessee. Tori Shaw traveled across the Appalachians to become part of the StormTrack 12 Weather Team. As a little girl, Tori would record "make-believe" newscasts, with the help of her father, in the basement of their home in Dyer. She would give the weather forecasts in front of a US national road map and a cardboard clock that read 6:00 no matter what time it actually was. This was only the beginning.

During her junior year of college, Tori came to a crossroads. She would be receiving her bachelor's degree in broadcast communications from the University of Tennessee at Martin soon, and it seemed she would have to narrow her focus. What other field to pursue in the vast world of communications- weather? Unfortunately, UTM at the time did not offer a meteorology program. With the help of her professors in the communications and geography departments, Tori was able to meet the requirements to attend graduate school at Mississippi State University.

Getting her master's in broadcast meteorology was not an easy task, but Tori was able to face challenges with the assistance of her classmates and professors. During her two years at MSU, Tori completed a research thesis entitled "A PBS Mind in an MTV World: Teaching Teenagers Meteorology by Placing a Weather Forecast on MTV". She was also able to participate in the 2008 MSU's Storm Chase, and was elected vice-president of the department's AMS student chapter.

Tori is a member of the American Meteorological Society and holds the AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal of Approval.

In her spare time, she enjoys reading weather magazines, working out, playing the piano, playing the French horn in the Craven County Community Band, listening and discovering music, volunteering at theatre and music events, visiting schools and looking at clouds.
