Katy Harris joined the news team as a reporter in Jacksonville in June 2014.

Katy was born in Nebraska, but her father's job in law enforcement moved them to several states, including Oklahoma, Washington State and Montana.

Katy earned a Master of Science in Technical Communication from Montana Tech of the University of Montana. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio-Television Broadcast News from the University of Montana.

In 2010, Katy began her reporting career for KAJ News in Kalispell, Mont. That's where she broke her milestone story about a former Marine who vanished into the remote Bob Marshall Wilderness shortly before deploying to Afghanistan with the California National Guard.

In 2012, Katy transferred to KXLF News in Butte, Mont., as the station's bureau chief and reporter. At KXLF, she covered wildfires, historical preservation and Superfund cleanup.

Katy looks forward to learning about Eastern North Carolina culture. She loves outdoor recreation and will be spending her time off exploring the beach and nearby islands.
