NC Hospital Drops Lawsuit Against Whistle-Blower

A North Carolina hospital is no longer suing a former employee who reported what the state auditor determined were excessive taxpayer payments.
The Winston-Salem Journal reported Saturday (bit.ly/vzp0IX) that North Carolina Baptist Hospital voluntarily dropped its lawsuit against Joseph Vincoli of Clemmons. The hospital says only that dismissing the case was best for all involved.
Vincoli declined to comment. He was fired in 2007.
Vincoli is Baptist Hospital's former managed-care director who alerted state officials that the State Health Plan was overpaying the Winston-Salem facility. The State Health Plan uses taxpayer money and employee premiums to cover more than 663,000 teachers and state workers.
The hospital's lawsuit accused Vincoli of breaching a 2008 confidential settlement by contacting the plan and other state agencies about his concerns.
