Should you have PSA testing?

A prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test can check men for the signs of prostate cancer. However, there are pros and cons to having the test done.

 

PSA tests can help identify cancer in its early stages, which can make treatment more successful. A normal test can also help ease the minds of some men that they don’t have prostate cancer.

 

However, a PSA test isn’t always necessary. According to the Mayo Clinic, some organizations don’t think men over the age of 75 need PSA testing.

 

Some organizations find it most beneficial for men between the ages of 40 and 75, and those with higher risk of developing prostate cancer, to have the test.
