Investigators said they have arrested two suspects involved in a Greenville shooting that was reportedly over a girl.
Johnta Barnhill-Sherrod (pictured) and Cornelus Keyes were arrested Monday afternoon for the shooting that happened on Pam Drive in Greenville late Sunday night, deputies said. Both have been charged with attempted first-degree murder. Barnhill-Sherrod was being held on a $1 million secured bond, according to the Pitt County Detention Center. There was no word on Keye's bond.
Police said there are four possible suspects- two of them were inside a getaway car and the other two were outside the vehicle shooting. The shooters were using a small-caliber gun that they exchanged back and forth, investigators said.
The victim was shot in the back and the bullet went through his shoulder, deputies said. Neighbors said his name is Don Lawrence. They said he was undergoing surgery but is expected to be okay.
"I came outside you could hear the people fussing ...Probably a few seconds later the fussing stops. Dudes about to get in the car ," an anonymous neighbor said.
However, the fight didn't end there.
"The white truck came in balling went inside the yard did a doughnut and rammed the car ...One person got out and started running and everything just went haywire. The next thing you know there was gunshots," the neighbor said.
Deputies said they do not believe the suspects live in the neighborhood. The victim also does not live there and was apparently visiting someone else at the time of the shooting, according to investigators.
Police did not release descriptions of the remaining suspects. NewsChannel 12 is working to get more details.
