Talk about a fashion faux pas.

Target is apologizing after listing the same dress on its website this week as "dark heather gray" in standard sizes and "manatee gray" for plus-sized women.

Twitter user Susan Clemens called out the discrepancy in a tweet that included a screengrab of the two different dresses, writing "What the. Plus sized women get "Manatee Grey" while standard sizes are "Dark Heather Grey." #notbuyingit

Within 24 hours, her tweet went viral across Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and several blogs.

"I really didn’t expect it to spread as widely as it has, but people are tired of having the size and shape of their body commented on, and that’s what this color discrepancy seems to imply," Clemens told ABC News.

Target spokesman Joshua Thomas told Forbes "manatee gray" is used to decribe many other products on the Target website, some in women's regular and even petite sizes.

In this case, there was miscommunication between the teams responsible for Target's standard and plus-sized products.

Thomas told Forbes one team used the official name of the color, while the other simply eyeballed it.

"We apologize for any discomfort this might have caused and are working to update the name of the dress to reflect Dark Heather Gray," he said. "This was an unfortunate oversight and we’ll take it into consideration moving forward."
