The North Carolina House has passed a legislation that would allow concealed weapon permit holders to store guns on college campuses and other public places.
The bill, now heading to the Senate, would allow concealed weapon permit-holders to store guns in locked cars on a public college campuses. The legislation would also give that option to private colleges if administrators agree.
In addition, the proposal would let permit holders arm themselves in a restaurant where alcohol is served unless the establishment expressly forbids it.
The legislation is endorsed by gun-rights groups, but is strongly opposed by university leaders, including ECU Chancellor Steve Ballard.
