ONSLOW COUNTY -

A man who survived an Onslow County wreck that killed both of his parents is showing improvement.

According to hospital officials, 40-year-old Michael Theodorakis was listed in good condition at New Hanover Regional Medical Center as of Friday morning.

Troopers said Michael was seriously injured in Thursday's wreck that killed both of his parents: 70-year-old George Theodorakis and 71-year-old Betty Theodorakis. The accident happened just before noon Thursday at Highway 17 and Murrill Hill Road, near the Harley-Davidson dealership southwest of Jacksonville.

Investigators said George Theodorakis was driving too fast and lost control, over-corrected, crashed into the median, and hit a tree. No other vehicle was involved.

Betty Theodorakis was sitting in the front passenger seat when she and her husband were killed, troopers said. Their son was in the backseat.

Troopers said they will await the medical examiner's report to see if a medical condition may have contributed to the crash

The victims lived at Lake Waccamaw in Columbus County, about 34 miles west of Wilmington. According to the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald, the deceased couple had already lost a son in June 2011.
