Logan Cox
BUFORD, SOUTH CAROLINA -

Relatives say a 3-year-old South Carolina boy who died several days after being trapped in a hot car had climbed into the vehicle while his mother slept.

Officials say Logan Cox died Sunday morning at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C.

Teresa Clevinger told 911 operators her daughter had been watching the 3-year-old boy last Wednesday, but dozed off while at the family's home in Buford, S.C., near the North Carolina line. Clevinger said her daughter slept for about 30 minutes.

The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office says Logan climbed into a car at the family's home and became trapped while his mother slept. The boy suffered severe heat stroke and died four days later.

The 911 call was obtained by WSOC-TV. Authorities haven't said if anyone will be charged in the boy's death.

The family's pet dog also went into the hot car with the 3-year-old, according to WSOC. The dog died as well.
