A cold front swept through Saturday night, another one will sweep through this evening. Tuesday a third front will move in. But even though our pattern is active, it is not very powerful.
Each front will do two things; 1. give us a few scattered showers and 2. Dock our temperatures by a few degrees.
Storms like this are generated by kinks in the jet stream. Our jet stream this year has been taking on a much more active track than last year's. Embedded kinks in an already active pattern mean we have a lot better chance of eventually seeing some of these storms become significant, like the ice storm the last week of January.
For that reason, even though Punxsutawney Phil is forecasting an early spring, our meteorologists think we are not done with winter yet.
