A black bear made quite the spectacle in a local neighborhood Wednesday.
The bear spent most of the day up in a tree on East Eighth Street in Washington. Wildlife officers said they were first notified of the bear around 7:30 Wednesday morning.
“We barely see anything in this neighborhood so this is a lot of action for us to see the bear in a tree,” Shericka Mason, who lives in the neighborhood, said.
Mason was one of several neighbors waiting outside, hoping to catch a glimpse of the bear.
“I want to see him when he comes down, so I’m going to sit out here as long as I can,” she said.
The bear finally decided to come down from the tree around 7 p.m. Wednesday. It ran through a nearby yard and onto a main road.
Wildlife officer Tony Cox said the bear will likely return to nearby woods.
