A New Bern man, previously convicted of rape at the Pentagon, was sentenced to federal prison for stealing identities from dozens of people.

On Monday, a Raleigh judge ordered 42-year-old Jeffrey Glenn Toohey to spend more than 10 years in federal prison, followed by five months of probation. He must also pay $261,354 in restitution.

Toohey stole more than 400 tax files from a Jackson Hewitt office in New Bern in late 2010, federal investigators said. Toohey then used the names and social security numbers of the victims to set up credit accounts, to buy goods for himself and his coffee shop in James City. Toohey pleaded guilty in June to two counts of aggravated identity theft, one count of identity theft, one count of access device fraud and one count of bank fraud.

Toohey had also pleaded guilty to identity fraud in 2008, and was sentenced to probation. He had spent 12 years in federal prison for raping a waitress in the Pentagon parking lot in 1998.
