PITT COUNTY -

Pitt County deputies found 25 grams of raw, uncut heroin during a Friday traffic stop on Highway 903 outside Stokes.

“Pure, uncut heroin is absolutely lethal if injected,” Sheriff Neil Elks said in a press release. “Once cut, 25 grams break down into 1,200 single dosage units.”

The heroin has a street value of up to $30,000, according to the press release.

The traffic stop was the result of a two-month investigation into the trafficking of heroin into Pitt County.

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office narcotics unit led the investigation, with assistance from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies stopped a 2003 GMC Yukon XL, driven by Eric Strong, of 2932 Calla Lilly Lane in Winterville.

Strong, 41, was arrested and charged with felony trafficking in heroin by possession and transport.  Strong also has a fugitive warrant from Maryland.  He is in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $1.5 million secured bond.

The passenger, Kenneth Harley, 24, of Clinton, Maryland, was arrested and charged with felony trafficking in heroin by possession.  He is in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond
