NEW BERN -

Hundreds of people lined up in New Bern for the first day of early voting.

Early voting stretches from Oct. 18 until Nov. 3, just days before the election day on Nov. 6.

A Politico Battleground Tracking Poll from George Washington University has Mitt Romney up just one point on President Obama in this year's presidential election.. That's 49 percent for Romney and 48 percent for Obama.

Voter enthusiasm is high in the area, with 500 people per day expected at the Craven County Administration polling place.

In ENC, there are split opinions about the candidate. North Carolina is considered a swing state, according to several pre-election polls.

"I feel that he didn't get any help for the last four years," Richard Matthews said about President Barack Obama, for whom he voted. "The other party kind of held him down from doing things that he wanted to do for everybody."

"I am supporting Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan," Isabell Hinkle said. "Because I think he is the best man for the job, I think he is honest and good."

The Craven County Administration polling place gets a reported 40 percent of its total votes during the early-voting period. On election day, 27 polling places will be open across Craven County.

There are several early voting offices across ENC. In Beaufort County, an election office is located at the county board at 1308 Highland Drive in Washington.

There's an election office at 1702 Oak Street in the town of Beaufort in Carteret County.

In Lenoir County, there is an election office in Kinston at 405 North McLewean Street.

An early voting office in Pitt County is in the County Office Building at 1717 W. 5th St.

Another is located at 4024 Richlands Highway in Jacksonville for Onslow County.
