NEW BERN, CRAVEN COUNTY -

An Emmy award-winning costume designer visited New Bern, to prepare for a movie about the woman behind the Pepsi logo.

Amy Andrews Harrell, who previously worked on the Oscar-nominated movie, "Lincoln," said she's excited to design the costumes for the film about Bayard Wootten's life.

In 1893, New Bern pharmacist Caleb Bradham developed the "Brad's Drink" concoction in the basement of his Johnson Street home. But it was his neighbor, Wootten, who gave "Brad's Drink" the name, "Pepsi."

Harrell talked with NewsChannel 12 about the upcoming film.

"It's an exciting opportunity to help bring such a strong, important woman into the public forefront and to tell her story," Harrell said. "It's very exciting to get to work on something on like this."

New Bern native Anthony Lilly, who works as a screenwriter in Seattle, Wash., will be making the movie about Wootten's life. Filming will not begin for at least another eight months.
