Federal investigators arrest suspect in massive drug ring

GREENVILLE, PITT COUNTY -

A man was arrested for allegedly running an extensive drug operation, ending a 10-year investigation by federal investigators and other agencies across the state.

According to detectives, Jeffrey Levon Wright, of Greenville, distributed more than 200 kilograms of cocaine and other illegal drugs in Eastern Carolina over the span of a decade.

When the Greenville Regional Drug Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration arrested Wright on Feb. 11, they seized one kilogram of power cocaine, with an estimated street value of $100,000, investigators said. In addition, officers seized $20,000 in cash, 10 firearms and 20 vehicles.

Wright was charged with  three counts of trafficking cocaine, and was being held under a $5,000,000 bond at the Pitt County Detention Center.

In addition to the DEA, 16 other law enforcement agencies took part in the investigation, including the State Bureau of Investigation, as well as police and deputies from Pitt County, Lenoir County, Wayne County Wilson County, Person County, Raleigh and other areas.
