Good crop of Christmas trees this year

CRAVEN COUNTY -

The search for the Christmas tree is on, and North Carolina is offering up some of the best in the business this year.  Janet Peregoy knows what type of tree she wants for her holiday.

"I want one that feels very fresh as if it's just been cut," said Peregoy.

The trees at Pinecone Perennials come from the North Carolina mountains near Boone.  Nursery manager, Jesse Schmucker, attributes this year's crop of Frasier firs to the rainy Summer and cool Fall nights in the Appalachians.

"They're very full, very big at the bottom this year and very conical shape.  This is probably the best we've seen in years, and not only here, but trees we see at other places as well.  It's definitely a good year for Frasier firs," said Schmucker.

The lush and dark green trees will make it easier for shoppers like Peregoy, to find their ideal Christmas staple.

"I want a nice shape but not so big that it takes up my whole living room, and we can't see the television," said Peregoy.

The trees are heavy with moisture, and they are coming to Eastern North Carolina in great condition.
