Kinston Company Hiring 300+ Positions
Smithfield Packing Company is looking to fill more than 300 jobs at its plant in Kinston. It's part of an expansion that wills double the building's size.
The positions range from maintenance supervisor to production workers, according to Mark Pope, Lenoir County economic developer.
The job openings are encouraging for those looking for work.
“When the market crashed, it took me out of my business,” said Kinston resident Danita Davis-Beverly. “I'm looking to do something completely different.”
Davis-Beverly is hoping to fill a quality control position at Smithfield. She’s already applied for the position, and now is taking steps to prepare through Lenoir Community College’s 16-hour training class held specifically for Smithfield applicants.
“A lot of this information I already know, but it is good to remind myself on this information,” Davis-Beverly said.
The class is a refresher course that focuses on filling out applications, preparing for job interviews and handling conflict in the workplace.
Phoebe Emory, Director of the Job Link Career Center at Lenoir Community College, said more than 500 people have signed up for the class.
Pope said training for employees hired is expected to begin in the fall. He estimates the expansion should be complete early next year.
