JACKSONVILLE, ONSLOW COUNTY -

A male student brought handguns to Lejeune High School, according to an official at Camp Lejeune.

Capt. Joshua Smith told NewsChannel 12 that the incident happened on March 28. The student allegedly brought two handguns to the school, but he had no ammunition. The school's security resource officer was able to handle the situation quickly, Capt. Smith said.

No one was hurt, and there was no concern that anyone was injured, Capt. Smith added.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is looking into the matter. Joe Kennedy, the special agent in charge of the NCIS Carolinas Field Office, said the investigation is ongoing. But he wouldn't comment on whether the student was punished, or if parents were notified of the incident.

Lejeune High School does use a mass notification system for parents and guardians in case of an emergency.
