Workers  from eastern North Carolina are working in the Northeast to help get the power back on for millions of people who are without electricity after Hurricane Sandy.

Dozens of workers from the Greenville Utilities Commission, or GUC, and a handful of workers from Kinston are now in Connecticut.

Six utility workers from the City of New Bern are set to arrive Wednesday night in Long Island, New York.

"People have been out of power and they're suffering," said Jeff Byrd, an electricity distribution engineer for GUC.

"There's a humanitarian component" to the work, Byrd said.

Out-of-town utility workers came to eastern North Carolina to help restore power in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene
