Man charged for alleged fight over sawed-off shotgun

WASHINGTON, BEAUFORT COUNTY -

A man was charged for allegedly fighting over a sawed-off shotgun.

James Calvin Cox, 55, of Cherry Road in Washington, was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a weapon of mass destruction.

Beaufort County deputies said they received a report of shots being fired at a home on Cherry Road, on Feb. 20. When they arrived at the scene, they learned that two people had been fighting over a gun. Deputies said they later found a sawed-off shotgun in a wooded area behind the home.

When the gun charges were filed, Cox was already in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a probation/ parole violation warrant. He is being held under a $10,000 secured bond for the latest charges.
