FAYETTEVILLE, N.C -

Authorities in Fayetteville are investigating a house fire that took the lives of a woman and her two children early Tuesday morning.

The blaze broke out just before 2:30 a.m. at a home in the 8500 block of Cliffdale Road.

Police said a passer-by reported the fire after seeing flames near the back of the house.

Fire crews found the unidentified mother and her two kids dead in the same room inside the home when they arrived. The father was working the night shift when the flames started.

It took crews about 45 minutes to get the blaze under control.

Further details about the fire have not been released at this time. Detectives are currently investigating the incident.

As crews work to clear the scene, police have closed eastbound lanes of traffic leading to Fort Bragg, and have routed both directions of traffic into the westbound lanes of Cliffdale Road.
