NC lawmakers, gov looking at lottery changes

(AP) - The North Carolina Education Lottery sold its first tickets seven years ago this month.
But does seven signal the end of the lottery's luck with state government?
Members of the General Assembly and Gov. Pat McCrory are interested in scaling back or altering how or how much the lottery advertises.
McCrory called out the lottery during his recent State of the State address, arguing the lottery commission had large administrative costs and that the lottery was "frankly annoying." He said he wanted to earmark more money toward school technology.
A bill scheduled for House debate this week that would delete the name "education" from the lottery and tweak advertising.
Lottery supporters say the changes could decrease ticket sales and net proceeds for education initiatives.
