GREENVILLE -

Two newly elected officials took their oaths of office Wednesday at the Pitt County Courthouse.

District 3A Judge Brian Desoto and District 9 House Representative Brian Brown were sworn into office.

"It was a blessing to be able to share those things with everyone," Brown said.

Brown beat out Marian McLawhorn, who held the position for fourteen years.

"It's very exciting. you know we've been in Raleigh a lot getting our feet wet, learning and understanding. [We have been] sitting down with groups locally and also statewide to kinda get an idea of what some of the issues are what are the concerns," Brown said.

"We're both just ready to get to work. It's been such a long year in 2012 that we're just like, 'Let's get moving. Let's do this. We know what's ahead. Let's just work together,'" Brian's wife, Rochelle said.

Rochelle said she was happy to be by his side, along with their daughter at the ceremony. They have another baby expected to arrive this summer.

"[The ceremony was] absolutely amazing. I'm so proud of him," Rochelle said.

For Desoto, this swearing in ceremony is a new chapter in his life that he said he is excited to tackle.

"It's just such a tremendous sense of satisfaction. You know, I wake up in the morning with a smile on. But at the same time a sense of nervousness that I do a good job," Desoto said.

However, it's a job Desoto knows he is ready for.

"In two years, I worked in private practice. The last five and a half years I worked as an assistant DA. I've done a whole lot. I've tried more jury trials than some lawyers have done in a lifetime and it's just one of those things when you work for the state it speeds up your progression a lot and it has for me," Desoto said.

The official swearing into office on the house floor for Representative Brown will take place in Raleigh on Jan. 9.

Judge Desoto said he will be rotating between Lenoir, Wayne and Greene counties for the next six months.
