October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Ol' Skool Tattoos in New Bern is doing its part.
Customers wanting breast cancer awareness designs will be given a special price, and will fund the fight.
"We're actually doing these tattoos at a discount price, make them more affordable," said owner Alex Liverano, "We're not even taking out money for supplies. We're donating 100 percent of our proceeds to the foundation."
This is the third year the tattoo parlor has offered this discounted designs. Liverano says they are sending all the proceeds to CarolinaEast Medical Center because they want the money to stay in the region.
There are 24 pre-made breast cancer awareness tattoo designs at the shop. Smaller designs, like a simple ribbon, can be done on a walk-in basis. Customized designs may need an appointment.
Alex Liverano's wife, Summer, requested a customized design.
"What we drew up yesterday is a set of pink brass knuckles with the breast cancer ribbon incorporated in it. The holes in the knuckles are hearts and we have a ribbon coming off that kind of whole, you know, let's knock out breast cancer," said Alex Liverano.
Summer Liverano got the first breast cancer awareness tattoo of the month, and she got it to support her aunt's fight.
"She's in remission now. This is her first year. She had a double mastectomy," said Summer Liverano.
For those not wishing to get a breast cancer awareness tattoo but wishing to help, there is a raffle going on in the store. The cost is $5 to enter the drawing for a $150 gift certificate at Ol' Skool Tattoos.
