Parents welcome New Year's baby
Parents around Eastern Carolina are welcoming newborn babies on New Year’s Day.
Vidant Medical Center in Greenville announced its first birth of 2013 just 24 seconds after midnight.
The baby boy, named Charles, weighed 7 pounds and 5 ounces. His parents, Heather and Eric, requested News Channel 12 not use their last names, but said they originally expected baby Charles December 27th.
Another baby boy, named Jonah, was born at Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville at 1:30 a.m. Parents L.Cpl. Lazaro Vargas of Camp Johnson, and Oshay Vargas, said little Jonah was not due until January 13th, but came early.
“Out of nowhere, we were holding a conversation, and her water broke,” Lazaro Vargas said.
The baby is the couple’s first.
“I think it's going to probably be the best gift that I’ll get in my entire life,” Oshay Vargas said.
The hospital’s auxiliary program donated a prize basket to the Vargas’ for having the first 2013 baby.
