Part of I-95 South closes during morning commute

The North Carolina Department is temporarily closing Interstate 95 South at the borders of Halifax and Nash counties so crews can work on a bridge.
The Daily Herald of Roanoke Rapids reports the south-bound lanes will close at 12:01 a.m. Monday. The right lane of I-95 South will reopen six hours later, while crews continue to work in the left lane.
The process will continue through Friday morning.
During the overnight closures, traffic will be detoured nearly six miles.
DOT officials say crews are rehabilitating a bridge over Fishing Creek. It is part of a $2.9 million contract awarded in May for work on 13 I-95 bridges in three counties.
Workers will use intense water pressure to remove old concrete from the bridge deck, then apply a new overlay.
