Police arrest man in connection with shooting

GREENVILLE -

Update:

Greenville police said they arrested a 31-year-old Terrance Lamont Smith in connection with the armed robbery and shooting of Demond Speight.

Police said they obtained a warrant for Smith and arrested him at his home on Bluff View Court at around 5:00 a.m. Monday morning.

He is charged with 1 count each of assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting serious injury, and armed robbery.

Smith is in jail under $1,000,000 secured bond.

Additional charges and arrests are possible.

Police in Pitt County report a Greenville man was shot during a robbery in his own home Saturday Night.

27-year-old Demond Marquel Speight was hit several times with a hand gun and then shot by one of two men before 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

Greenville Police said there were two suspects involved in the robbery that happened on the 3200 block of Westgate Drive in Greenville.

The two suspects ran from the scene before officers arrived.

As police investigated, they found two pounds of marijuana in the front yard of Speight's home. There was also damage to two cars in Speight's yard and to a neighbor's house because of stray bullets.

Speight was taken to Vidant Medical for treatment. His condition is unknown.

Police said a person was shot in the 3200 block of Westgate Drive and taken to Vidant Medical Center with injuries.

As of 1:30 a.m. Sunday, most of the police activity centered around a home at 3203 Westgate Drive.

There was blood leading from that residence, and police said drugs may be involved. Police sectioned off several homes around the area with caution tape as they worked to complete their investigation.
