Student in hospital after near drowning on school trip

A student at Havelock High School is currently in the hospital after police said he was swept under during a school trip Thursday.

A student at Havelock High School is currently in the hospital after police said he was swept under a rip current during a school trip Thursday.

According to Craven County Schools, 40 students from Havelock High School attended a board approved field trip to the North Carolina Aquarium and Fort Macon State Park. While they were at the park, some students entered into the water. One student was caught up in a rip current and had to be rescued.

That student has been transported for medical treatment and is currently being treated at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

According to The Havelock News, he is currently listed in critical condition.
