TRENTON -

A New Bern man was charged with DWI and reckless driving after rolling his car in Jones County.

According to a state trooper, 21-year-old Kenneth Jatrell Ward's car left Wyse Fork road, hit a ditch, and rolled over. Ward told emergency personnel responding to the scene he wasn't drunk, but had smoked marijuana.

Troopers say Ward was under the impression it wasn't illegal to smoke marijuana and drive, since you can't test for it on the scene. Ward said he smoked 8 blunts.

Troopers say Ward could've easily killed himself or another person driving the way he was.

Ward was transported to the hospital where he was later arrested.

Ward is charged with reckless driving, no operators license, and DWI.
