JACKSONVILLE -

After a year long search, a Veteran and single mother of two landed the perfect job. On Friday, Kathren Smith said it's partly due to her interview with NewsChannel 12.

Two weeks ago, Smith attended the Veterans Job Fair conducted by the North Carolina Division of Workforce Solutions.  Smith spent nearly a decade in the army and deployed twice overseas.

The single mother of two retired two years ago and has been looking for full time work.

"We got the news just a day ago that Kathren Smith had gotten hired," said Gail Horn, Veteran Employment Consultant at the Division of Workforce Solutions.

"She's the girl that you interviewed earlier," said Horn, "as a result of your coverage, an employer came in and said I would like to interview her for a position I have."

Next week, Smith will begin a clerical position with Homeland Security Solutions at Camp Lejeune.  "With Homeland Security I would hope that I could move up in the branches," said Smith.

Smith, who was working part-time, said she needed to make more than minimum wage in order to support her family alone. "It was just mainly finding the right job that would pay enough for me to go to work and pay for daycare," Smith said.

Smith said she's currently in school working towards her Bachelors Degree.  She has already received her Associate Degree for Medical Office.
