Votes set on Dix park proposal
Key decisions are expected on a proposal to turn the 325-acre Dorothea Dix Hospital campus in Raleigh into a park.
Members of North Carolina's Council of State and Raleigh's City Council are to meet Tuesday to vote on a proposal to lease the state-owned hospital grounds to the city for 75 years for $68 million.
Under the deal proposed by Gov. Beverly Perdue, Raleigh would pay $500,000 annually to lease the property, plus a 1.5 percent annual increase compounded over the length of the agreement.
Private individuals have pledged to donate an additional $3 million to create a master plan for the park.
Republican Gov.-elect Pat McCrory and GOP legislative leaders have asked the Democratic-controlled Council of State to delay any decision until McCrory takes office in January.
