There is more legal trouble for the family of Alanna Garris, the girl who died in a crash in which her mother was charged with DWI. Authorities have arrested the child's father for an alleged armed robbery.
According to Craven County deputies, Alan Garris used a shotgun to rob Christopher Hill, of Half Moon Road, in April. Garris allegedly used Hill's own weapon to take $600 from the victim. Investigators did not explain exactly where the alleged robbery took place.
Garris was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon on Tuesday. But he is not being held in jail, an official said.
Garris is the father of 6-year-old Alanna Garris, who died on Feb. 22. According to investigators, Alanna's mother, 24-year-old Amber Sandvig, was driving while intoxicated when she went left of the center line and crashed head-on into an SUV on Brices Creek Road.
Alanna's 2-year-old brother, Allen "Blaze" Garris, was injured, but has since been released from the hospital.
Their mother, Sandvig, has been charged with DWI, one count of felony death by motor vehicle, three counts of felony serious injury by motor vehicle, and two counts of felony child abuse. At last check, Sandvig was being held on a $2 million bond.
The New Bern couple in the SUV, Julie and Mike Payne, were also hurt. Julie suffered two broken legs while her husband suffered minor injuries.
