FAYETTEVILLE, CUMBERLAND COUNTY -

The Army has declared that missing Fort Bragg soldier Kelli Bordeaux is deceased so benefits can be transferred to her family.

According to Fort Bragg officials, Brig. Gen. David K. MacEwen declared Bordeaux deceased on Monday, based on the findings and recommendations of the Board of Inquiry. But the declaration does not presume that Bordeaux is actually dead; it just allows military benefits to be transferred to her family.

Bordeaux disappeared after leaving a Fayetteville nightclub with an acquaintance in April 2012, investigators said. She was 23 years old at the time.

A person of interest in the case is Nicholas Holbert, a convicted sex offender. He told authorities he gave Bordeaux a ride home from the bar the night she disappeared. Holbert has not been charged for Bordeaux's disappearance, but is in jail on unrelated charges.

Police and volunteers spent months scouring woods and fields near where Bordeaux was last seen, but they have found no trace of the missing Army medic.

Anyone with information about Bordeaux's disappearance is asked to contact Fort Bragg investigators at 910-396-8777.
