A local school district announced Thursday it will reduce the number of employment days for all teacher assistants due to budget cuts.
Starting this upcoming school year, teacher assistants at Craven County Schools will have their employment reduced by nine days per academic year, according to the Board of Education.
The nine days will be the designated "O" days on school calenders. Teacher assistants will not be able to work on those days, or use annual or bonus leave, the Board of Education stated. Their salaries will be adjusted accordingly.
The reduction in days of work will save 20 teacher assistant positions that would have been lost because of a $1.27 million reduction passed by the General Assembly, according to Craven County Schools.
