KINSTON, LENOIR COUNTY -

Kinston police are looking for a man they're calling armed and dangerous. Simeon Deon Meadows, 23, is accused of shooting into a crowd and hitting a seven year old boy at the Richard Green Apartments in Kinston.

Once arrested, Meadows will face an assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, and a secret assault charge.

It happened Friday around 6:10 p.m. on the 300 block of Richard Green Court.

It's a neighborhood our NewsChannel 12 crews have been to before. Just last month, NewsChannel 12 talked to Johanna Lebron about a 19-year-old who'd been shot.

"We've got too many young little folks running around here. One day they're going to accidentally shoot a child instead of who they want," Lebron said.

Her predication is unfortunately a true one.

Seven-year-old Tykel Moore said he'd been playing outside with several other kids when a gunshot grazed his leg.

"I was across the street over there and I heard a gun shot," Tykel said.

A witness, David Williams said the gunman pulled up in his car and fired into a group of about 15 people.

"He just stopped right here, let out one shot, and rolled off real fast," Williams said.

Fortunately for Tykel, a little white gauze is all his wound needed.

"I got stitches and they cleaned it. I feel lucky," Tykel said.

Meadows was currently out of jail awaiting trial for multiple drug charges.

Previous Story:

A 7-year-old boy was shot in the leg by a man police said fired into a residential area.

According to a Kinston Department of Public Safety spokesperson, the shooting happened Friday at 6:10 p.m. on the 300 block of Richard Green Court. Police said that's where, Simeon Deon Meadows fired at least one round out of a vehicle. The bullet struck the boy, though police believed he was not Meadow's target.

Once arrested, Meadows will face an assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and a secret assault charge. He is considered armed and dangerous.

The 7-year-old boy was taken to Lenoir Memorial Hospital for treatment and has been released.
