A shooting near a busy Triangle mall sent one man to the hospital and sent police on the hunt for a suspect.
Police identified the victim as 37-year-old Demarcus Montice Brown. Officials do not think the shooting was random.
It happened around 3 p.m. Tuesday near Triangle Town Center where hundreds of people were doing their last minute shopping.
"We went and got our nails done in the shopping center," said shopper Moriah Joynes.
Joynes and her sister were shopping at Poyner Plaza when shots rang out, and the area turned into a crime scene.
She didn't hear anything, but was surprised to learn that someone had been shot in the parking lot right near the nail salon where she and her sister had just spent the morning.
"It's pretty scary," said Joynes.
The shooting also happened right near a day care full of children.
Day care workers told ABC11 that they were able to keep the children occupied and distracted while police investigated the crime scene.
"I think that's very sad," said shopper Taylor Becton. "It could have been a child to get shot too!"
Becton is a mother and says it's hard to hear about any shooting, let alone one so close to children and in an area she assumes is pretty safe.
"It's very quiet over here," said Becton. "Nothing really goes on over here, just a lot of businesses."
Police haven't released any information about a suspect just yet. At last check, police said they're still questioning eyewitnesses.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Raleigh Police Department.
