NORTH CAROLINA -

The Coast Guard rescued seven people from their boat that was sinking off the North Carolina Coast.

According to a release, the 26-foot boat, Going Deep, started to sink at about 14 miles east of Cape Hatteras. The crew called the Coast Guard at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to report that their vessel was taking on water.

The Coast Guard said they launched two boats and a helicopter to rescue the seven people aboard the sinking ship.

As the rescuers were heading to the scene, a crew aboard the merchant vessel, Diamond Lady, came to help the stranded boaters, the Coast Guard said. The Diamond Lady crew monitored the situation and communicated with the Coast Guard until the rescuers arrived.

All seven people aboard the sinking boat were saved, according to the Coast Guard. No injuries were reported. The damaged boat was towed to Teach's Lair Marina.

There was no word on what caused the boat to take on water.
