KENANSVILLE, DUPLIN COUNTY -

Police said they are still deciding whether to file charges against the driver who hit a Kenansville Elementary teacher outside her school, seriously injuring her.

According to police, a car driven by 69-year-old Shelby Parker struck first-grade teacher Elizabeth Crawford at about 3 p.m. Thursday, as parents were picking up students at Kenansville Elementary. Parker did stop after the accident.

Crawford was flown to Vidant Duplin Hospital, before being transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, investigators said. Her injuries are considered to be serious.

Police told NewsChannel 12 they are still investigating whether the accident was a mechanical malfunction or driver's error. Officers said they'll now in about a week if Parker will be charged.
