The Onslow County Sheriff's Office charged a man with shaking a 7-month-old baby girl, causing her to suffer shaken baby syndrome.

Cedrick Williams, 28, of Jacksonville was charged on July 25 with intentional child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury and assault on a child under 12. The warrant for his arrest states that his actions caused "subdural hemorrhage and significant neurologic deficits" in the infant.

"It's very unsettling," said Michael Prickett, a former neighbor. "I would never let harm come to my daughter, so I can't believe how anybody let that do theirs."

Williams ex-girlfriend, Sabra Miller, said she trusted him with her children.

"He was here with me and my kids, and I was able to leave him with my kids," Miller said. "Had no issues, had no problems. We always had fun around him. He'd play with the kids but nothing, never like that. That was very shocking to me."

Williams is the boyfriend of the baby's mother and was caring for the child at the time.

He is being held in the Onslow County Jail under a $125,000 secured bond.
