TRENTON, JONES COUNTY -

Deputies have arrested three people for allegedly having meth in a car with a 3-year-old girl.  Investigators said the child's mother was high while behind the wheel.

Virginia Lee Stancil, 32, Lisa Gail-Lynn Stancil, 52, and Brandon Shelton Quinn, 24, all from Pink Hill, face a slew of felony charges. The younger Stancil is the 3-year-old girl's mother; the elder Stancil is the child's grandmother.

Just before noon on Friday, a state trooper pulled over the suspects' vehicle on Old New Bern Road in Trenton for a seat belt violation, deputies said. The trooper found a 3-year-old child in the vehicle and evidence of drugs, according to investigators.

"Obviously when you have a child in a car, you can't be in the right state of mind if you're traveling with illegal narcotics in your vehicle," said Captain J.T. Eimer with the Jones County Sheriff's Department.

Narcotics investigators arrived on scene and searched the vehicle, where they found crystal meth, meth ingredients, prescription drugs and drug paraphernalia, deputies said.

"The older suspects attempted to hide a meth pipe from investigators and there was a brief struggle," said Eimer.

The 3-year-old child in the car was taken by Child Protective Services and turned over to a relative.

The child's mother, Virginia Stancil, has been charged with felony possession of meth precursor, felony possession of meth, maintaining a vehicle for controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor child abuse. She was being held under a $100,000 secured bond.

The child's grandmother, Lisa Stancil, has been charged with felony possession of meth precursor, felony possession of meth, maintaining a vehicle for controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting a public officer. She was jailed on a $5,000 secured bond.

Lastly, Brandon Quinn has been charged with felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held under a $10,000 secured bond.

Deputies said the investigation is ongoing and suspects may face additional charges. All three suspects have been moved to Craven County Jail due to space issues.
