Investigators said an early-morning house fire in Pitt County was intentionally set, and crews found a dog tied up in the yard.
The blaze started at about 4:07 a.m. Friday at 1306 Myrtle Ave. in Greenville, according to Battalion Chief Shannon Terry of Greenville Fire and Rescue. Crews were able to bring the fire under control in about 15 minutes and discovered that the house was unoccupied, Terry said. There had been no electrical or gas utilities service at the building since June 18.
Crews found an unharmed dog on the property, Terry said. Animal Control officers then took custody of the canine.
Deputy Fire Marshal Pat Dunn ruled that the house fire was intentionally set, but is working on finding an exact cause. At last check, no arrests have been made.
