A man has been charged with child abuse and other charges for allegedly leaving a moving vehicle he was driving, all while a juvenile was in the back seat.
Jacksonville Police have identified the suspect as 23-year-old Cody Lane Pruitt, of Georgia.
According to police, the incident happened at about 12:47 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Brynn Marr and Bell Fork Roads.
Police said Pruitt was driving a vehicle north on Bell Fork Road, but he then exited the vehicle while it was moving at a slow speed. Investigators said Pruitt left the vehicle because of an argument.
A passenger in the front seat was able to take control of the vehicle, police said.
Investigators said one juvenile was in the backseat at the time. None of the passengers were injured.
Pruitt was taken to Onslow Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released, police said.
Pruitt has been charged with three counts of misdemeanor child abuse, leaving a motor vehicle unattended, and careless and reckless driving. He was being held under a $1,500 bond, but has since bonded out of jail.
