HUBERT, ONSLOW COUNTY -

An Onslow county family now has a place to call home in Hubert. Crystal Coast Habitat for Humanity handed over the keys to a family of six Friday. The father of the family, Harvey Essary, said he is excited to own his first home.

“I’m joyful, happy, just can’t believe we got our own home,” Harvey said.

Habitat for Humanity Crystal Coast Director Kris Durham said, "This family is unique because it’s a very large family, and at one point in time they had to live in two different homes. It was nice to get them all under one roof together."

The Essarys lived in a mobile home for several years with little space.

The family says they are paying about $400 a month with taxes for their new home. It will save them about $200 a month compared to where they were living.

Mother, Rebecca Essary, said she is happy to finally have closet space and room for her family.

"It’s the best feeling, it's accomplishment, we won't ever have to move again," she said.

Rebecca said this home will give her children the stability she's always wanted.

"The children, they're excited. I know when they put the floor down in here, Bethany, the five-year-old, laid down on the floor and did snow angels."

When we asked Bethany what she thought of her new home, she said, "I love it."

A Marine and his family donated the lot last year.

"It’s kind of hard to believe that there are still people out there to help people that need it," Harvey said.

Habitat for Humanity broke ground in December, and with the help of volunteers they were able to finish the home in eight months. The house was ready just in time for the Essary’s sixth child to be born this November.
