A father is accused of intentionally assaulting and seriously hurting his four month old son.

JACKSONVILLE, ONSLOW COUNTY -

A father is accused of intentionally assaulting and seriously hurting his four month old son.

Warrants show Cody Owens, 23, of Jacksonville was arrested Thursday for intentionally throwing his four month old child on the ground.

Owens intentionally committed serious injury to the four month old resulting in bleeding on the baby's brain, according to warrants.

Cedric Baugh lives a couple doors down from Owens. Baugh said the baby's mother wasn't home when he heard a scream coming from inside the apartment Thursday. He said about an hour later several deputy cars showed up as well as an ambulance in the parking lot.

"I heard some voices outside the door. I got up and a deputy was standing right here at my door and they kind of waved me back. My first thought was something must have happened to the kids," Baugh said.

According to Baugh, it was a couple hours before deputies from the Onslow County Sheriff's Department arrested Owens.

Owens is charged with a felony intentional child abuse causing serious physical injury, misdemeanor contributing delinquent of juvenile, and misdemeanor assault of a child under 12.

As of Saturday night, Owens was in the Onslow County Jail. Owens is scheduled to appear in the Onslow County Courthouse on Monday.
