DUPLIN COUNTY -

It's been raining on and off for the past several days. Those at the Department of Transportation said all that water has caused several road closures in Duplin County.

Buddy Blanton has seen flooding every year for the 50 years he's lived in Wallace.

"It doesn't take much water now to flood the place out," Blanton said. "I think we cleaned the creeks out years and years ago, but they're stopped up again. They need cleaning again. The water just can't get out."

Rosemary Road in Rose Hill, Iron Mine Road and H.C. Powers Road in Wallace and Brooks Quinn Road near Kenansville were closed Tuesday from the high waters rising from nearby creeks.

Bridge Inspector Greg Carr has been out and about making sure that drivers stay safe.

"This is a low area, and you know any time you have a whole lot of rain for several days back to back, we do have this same problem," Carr said. "We're coming back out doing this same thing and inspecting."

The rain has also affected Candy Gable's business.

"I do lawn service so it's really kind of hurting me a little, bit on the work, but hey, it's making grass grow," Gable said.

Due to high waters, the following roads in Duplin County roads are closed: HC Powers Road near Wallace, Iron Mine Road in Wallace, and Brooks Quinn Road near Kenansville and Rosemary Road in Rose Hill.
