GREENVILLE, PITT COUNTY -

Police said they have arrested four people for embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from an eye center in Greenville.

According to Det. Tom Woolard of the Greenville Police Department, more than $250,000 were stolen from Eastern Carolina Eye Center, PA on Stantonsburg Road.

Four suspects were arrested on May 16: (pictured l-r) Sabrina Dawn Fontana, her husband Kevin Nino Fontana, Mary Rollins Jones and Lorraine Joy DeCuzzi (not pictured), who face a combined 68 charges, said Woolard.

Det. Woolard said the owner of the eye center, Dr. James E. Holland, reported in June 2012 that an audit determined his office manager, Sabrina Fontana, converted funds without approval to increase her salary and benefits between January 2007 and March 2012. Fontana also allegedly used the business' credit card to pay for personal purchases totaling $158,216.72, according to Woolard.

Det. Woolard said he later learned that two other employees at the practice, Jones and DeCuzzi, knowingly allowed Fontana to increase their pay and benefits totaling $31,653.74 without authorization.

In addition, Fontana allegedly diverted $28,800  to her husband, Kevin Fontana, making him appear to be on the practice's payroll, said Woolard.

Det. Woolard said more than $250,000 were embezzled from the practice altogether. Police have identified additional employees and more charges are pending.
