Gov. McCrory threatens veto on N.C. abortion bill

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory is taking a harder line on proposed legislation to tighten rules on abortions, threatening to veto the measure unless his concerns are addressed.
McCrory's office released a statement Wednesday saying he would block the measure from taking effect "unless significant changes" are made. It cites the comments by Health and Human Services Secretary Aldona Wos on Tuesday to a House committee.
Wos said she was worried about provisions directing regulators to develop abortion clinic standards similar to those used to regulate outpatient surgery centers. McCrory said earlier this week he wanted to make sure the health and safety of women are protected, not restricting abortion access.
The bill is in the House after it was voted on quickly by the Senate last week.
