Greenville Police say Det. Alvaro M. Elias has been arrested on one count of violating a domestic violence protective order.

Greenville Police say Det. Alvaro M. Elias was arrested on Tuesday, October 8, on one count of violating a domestic violence protective order.  That violation occurred over a phone call, according to court document.

According to warrants obtained by NewsChannel 12, Elias attempted to make contact with the person who asked for the protective order by going through their 9 year old son. The warrant states Elias knew the phone was on speaker mode and that she would be listening, and it states that his attempt to speak to the complainant violated the protective order.

Elias was relieved of his police powers and put on administrative leave Tuesday, according to police.

The Greenville Police Department was notified of Elias' involvement in a domestic complaint on October 2. Greenville Police Chief Hasan Aden said,  "The alleged offenses occurred within the City of Greenville, but because of a clear and present conflict of interest, I asked the Pitt County Sheriff's Office to lead the investigation."

On Wednesday, October 8, Pitt County Sheriff's Office served an arrest warrant on Det. Elias which alleges he violated the terms of a domestic violence protective order by making third-party contact with the complaining witness.

Elias is being held in the Pitt County Detention Center without bond. He is expected to appear in court Thursday morning.

According to the Greenville Police Department, Detective Elias is an eight year veteran of the force and has been assigned to the Major Crimes Unit for approximately 2 years.
