A man broke into a home, held down a 91-year-old man, then robbed the victim has been sentenced to prison.
In a statement Friday, District Attorney Scott Thomas announced that 32-year-old Jason Troy Foscue, of Atlantic Beach, pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary. Foscue was sentenced this week to between 76 months (six years and four months) to 104 months (eight years and eight months) in prison.
On May 12, 2014, Foscue broke into the home of a 91-year-old man through a small opening in a sliding glass door, said the Carteret County Sheriff's Office. The home is located on Bay Club Circle west of Morehead City.
Foscue then held the 91-year-old victim down in his chair and took about $20 from the victim's pocket, according to deputies.
Investigators arrested Foscue the next day.
The 91-year-old victim reported that Foscue had broken into the home before to steal money.
According to records, Foscue has a criminal record that began in 2000, including felony convictions of breaking and entering a boat, and several convictions of breaking and entering a building or residence.
Because of his criminal past, Foscue was sentenced as a habitual felon. Under North Carolina laws, good time, gain time and parole are eliminated. Foscue must serve 100 percent of his minimum prison term.
